Malvern Town well and truly got into the festive spirit on Saturday (24 November), as thousands flocked to the Christmas Festival on Church Street to watch the Christmas lights being switched on by Su Pollard and Mark James.
There was an array of performances throughout the day including Morris dancing by Old Meg Morris and the Appleyard Morris dancers, stilt walkers from Solo Circus, Dance in Motion, VoxRox Choir, Ruby Woo, Malvern St James Junior Choir, and many more. Father Christmas made a special appearance in Great Malvern Library, along with craft workshops by MAKE and face painting by Jamuna.
The annual event is organised by the Christmas Committee, which is comprised of representatives from Malvern Town Council, Great Malvern Library, Great Malvern Priory, Steve Boffy Arts Markets, Malvern Hills District Council, BBC Hereford & Worcester, and local traders.
The Mayor of Malvern, Cllr Cynthia Palmer, said:
“This year’s Christmas event attracted the largest crowds ever, and it was great to see a community event so well supported throughout the day. The stallholders and traders were delighted with the footfall, and Great Malvern Priory did an outstanding job of keeping the traders and public warm with hot refreshments and delightful music!
“Due to the incredible generosity of the public, we raised over £400 on the day for Sight Concern Worcestershire, my chosen charity for this year, bringing the total raised so far to £2,515. Thank you for your continued support.
“I was so pleased to meet Su Pollard and Mark James who were simply charming and I am sure that this year’s pantomime will be superb.”
